Washington, D.C., circa 1925. "Mrs. Marion Durphy with 'The Duke of Arlington.'" National Photo Company Collection glass negative. View full size.
Boston Terriers enjoyed a huge surge of popularity in the 1920s. I think their appeal is pretty obvious.
They came in a poor second after the painful-looking feet! Ouch! But I love the dogs!! (The furry ones!)
I was expecting commentary on the four legged friends, not on Mrs. Durphy's shoes! But it is hard ignore those shoes! Her poor ankles look like an explosion just waiting to happen!
It is interesting to see how much (or little!) breeds have changed in the last century. The Boston terrier looks very similar to today's Boston. The St. Bernard, OTOH, is very, very different from today's Saint. This would be a pet quality Saint by today's AKC standards.
She has cankles. The Duke looks like he could be a suitable footrest.
I thought you were slipping, Dave, I didn't really get the title until I went to hi-def and saw the pup. My apologies for doubting the Master.
Those pumps are busting open! That dog's food budget must be cutting into Marion's shoe allowance.
Have Mercy! Those shoes are popping buttons and seams. Her feet look like a 10 pound sausages stuffed in 5 pound skins!
