The 71st Armory - where the 1915 Vacation Circus was held - was a most impressive stone structure inspired by the Sienese Palazzo Pubblico, complete with a huge tower. Naturally it was torn down in the 1960s to be replaced ten years later by an anonymous skyscraper.
After reading "The Circus Fire" by Stewart O'Nan, I never want to find myself in a wooden structure under that much fabric.
