My parents' business had a 20 ton truck crane back in the 1970s and '80s (it was old then, probably early '50s) that used a 6x6 FWD truck chassis with an enormous six cylinder Waukesha gasoline engine for a power plant.
12-15 mph top speed, fuel consumption was probably gallons per mile. I used to dread driving pilot car on the freeway with that beast when a 60 mile trip would take four hours!
